Following the recent sale of an Accuphase P-4500 power amp I have decided to continue with simplifying my existing system.

Next to go will be this superb example of an Accuphase C-2150 preamplifier. As with the P-4500, this preamp is also in immaculate condition.

Accuphase amplifiers are known for being hand-built to a high standard in Japan, a process that emphasizes precision and craftsmanship, and they are a low-volume manufacturer with a reputation for exceptional build quality and longevity. Supplies into the UK are limited.

This one was supplied new by Signals in May 2021. It is fully balanced in construction and features 5 line level and 2 balanced inputs with both single ended and balanced ouputs.

According to Accuphase, the C-2150 for the first time combines a new topology called ANCC with the AAVA volume control principle. As a result, music reproduction is supple, elegant and full of transparency, with a spatial expression capability that makes one forget the presence of any volume control circuit. With a functionality level close to their higher-end models and a versatile array of input and output terminals, plus the choice of adding the Dac and Phono option boards. This next-generation control center will satisfy even the most demanding music lover. It is possible to accurately fine tune volume in 0.5db steps. The preamp also has a variable gain switch enabling a choice of 12db, 18db or 24db to match a wide range of input components.

The supplied RC-230 remote control allows volume adjustment and input switching (please note that the remote does have some light marks on its front). All of the remaining control options and adjustments can be accessed by lowering the flap on the front fascia. It will be supplied with a user manual.

Accuphase has recently replaced this model with the new C-2300 which retails at £10k.

The preamp weighs around 18kg. It will be provided in the original double boxes resulting in a package well in excess of 20kg. As such, I would much prefer it was sold on a collection only basis. I would also be prepared to meet/deliver a reasonable distance from Ipswich, Suffolk.

Any buyer is welcome to arrange their own collection by courier.

Asking £4200

Because I never used it, it never occurred to mention the onboard headphone amplifier. According to Accuphase the headphone amplifier in the Accuphase C-2150 is not just an afterthought—it’s a fully independent, high-performance circuit that reflects the brand’s meticulous engineering philosophy.

• Dedicated Circuitry: The C-2150 includes five separate amplifier sections—input buffer, V-I converter, I-V converter, output buffer, and headphone amp—each on its own circuit board. This ensures minimal interference and optimal performance.

• ANCC Topology: Accuphase’s proprietary Accuphase Noise and Distortion Cancelling Circuit (ANCC) is implemented in the headphone amp. It uses a sub-amplifier to cancel noise in the main circuit, resulting in ultra-low distortion and exceptional clarity.

• Low Noise Floor: The headphone amp benefits from a noise density of just 1.5 nV/√Hz, which contributes to a pristine listening experience, especially at low to medium volume levels.

This lovely preamp remains available for sale.
