Assuming the phone was imported from overseas...

If you ignore it, there is a chance that it will eventually appear on your credit file. That might not stop you getting credit, but it might mean that you will pay a higher interest rate.

They may add penalty charges for late payment, and they might pursue payment through a collection agency (thats usually the point where it gets added to your credit file). It's not best practice by FedEx. They really should collect the charges from you before they deliver the item.

You should check your contract with the seller. Did they state that import charges were included, or did they state that you were responsible for paying the charges? If its the former, contact Amazon. If it's the latter, then you should probably pay up promptly.

Looked it up on Google, and yes FedEx does pay the vat on imports , so I have paid up, not worth the stress, but Amazon are to blame in my eyes, this is their invoice IMG20260720192803.jpg

Yeah, I strongly dislike the 'surprise you later' way that Amazon / FedEx have done it here.

You presumably bought it from a market place seller NOT Amazon themselves. It's always worth checking who's supplying the goods before paying for them.

Amazon usually add any fees at the time of sale so you pay them up front. You said seller offered a refund which is why I assumed it was a market place seller/shop on Amazon and not direct/supplied from Amazon themselves 😉

I bought items directly from Amazon US a couple of times recently using my UK Amazon account and both times there was a notice about import charges at checkout.

No notice on my purchase, I guess that's why the seller is offering a refund.

I'd be talking to Amazon at this point, they'll help you.
